Patterns of drowning and near drowning in NSW.

چکیده
An analysis of drowning in Australia showed that, overall, rates of drowning are low compared to other injuries. In NSW between 1995 and 1999, drowning was the sixth most common injury-related cause of death, and neardrowning was the eighth most common cause of injury-related hospitalisation. However, as these are population-based estimates, the rates underestimate the risk involved in exposure to water-related hazards. As many people are not regularly exposed to bodies of water, the risk for those who are is significantly higher than that suggested by the population rate. This article describes the relationship between exposure to water and the risk of drowning.

Pattern of presenting complaints recorded as near-drowning events in emergency departments: a national surveillance study from Pakistan.
BACKGROUND Drowning is a heavy burden on the health systems of many countries, including Pakistan. To date, no effective large-scale surveillance has been in place to estimate rates of drowning and near-drowning in Pakistan. The Pakistan National Emergency Department Surveillance (Pak-NEDS) study aimed to fill this gap. METHODS Patients who presented with a complaint of "near-drowning" were a...

متن کاملDrowning - a scientometric analysis and data acquisition of a constant global problem employing density equalizing mapping and scientometric benchmarking procedures
BACKGROUND Drowning is a constant global problem which claims approximately half a million victims worldwide each year, whereas the number of near-drowning victims is considerably higher. Public health strategies to reduce the burden of death are still limited. While research activities in the subject drowning grow constantly, yet there is no scientometric evaluation of the existing literature ...

Introduction: In Iran, few studies have been carried out on the frequency of drowning cases in the country's southern and northern coasts. The aim of this study is to evaluate the frequency of drowning cases in the provinces with northern and southern coastal margins from 2011 to 2014 and to examine the risk factors related to drowning mortality. Methods: This cross-sectional analytical study ...
